Privacy policy
Updated 5 November 2026
This policy explains what personal data Editwise collects, why, who helps us process it, how long we keep it, and the choices and rights you have.
The short version: we use what you send us to edit your videos, we publish to TikTok or Instagram only what you approve, we never sell your data, and we don’t use your footage to train AI.
1. Who we are
Editwise is run by Cazari B.V., Klaaskampen 34, 1251 KP Laren (NH), the Netherlands, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK) under number 98486748. We are the controller of the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us at support@editwise.co.
This policy covers our website, the Editwise app and editing service, and the connections to TikTok and Instagram you can turn on in the app. When you are a business using Editwise for your own brand, we process the content you upload on your instructions, as described in our Terms of use.
2. What we collect
The waitlist
If you join the waitlist: your first and last name, your email address, and the plan you were looking at, if any.
Your account
Your name, email address, the name of your workspace and brands, and your settings.
What you send us
- Briefs, messages and the comments you leave on videos.
- Footage (video and audio) and photos you upload or share by link.
- Your brand kit: logos, colours, fonts, reference images and links to example videos.
Footage often shows you or other people. Only upload footage you have the right to use, including the permission of the people in it (see the Terms of use).
What we make from it
- A transcript of the speech, with the timing of each word and the language spoken.
- Where faces sit in the frame, so the edit keeps the speaker framed. We use this only for framing; we never use it to recognise or identify anyone.
- The plan of each edit, the drafts, and the finished videos and carousels.
TikTok and Instagram, when you connect them
The account details and access the platform gives us, and what you publish through Editwise. Section 6 lists exactly what that is.
Payments
Your plan, invoices and payment status. Card payments are handled by our payment provider; we never receive or store your full card details.
Technical data
Our servers keep short logs (IP address, browser, the page or action, and the time) to keep the service secure and to fix problems. Our website uses no advertising or analytics cookies and no tracking; the app uses only the cookies it needs to keep you signed in and secure.
3. How we use it, and why we may
| What we do | Legal basis (GDPR) |
|---|---|
| Edit your footage to your brief, deliver the videos, handle revisions and keep them in your Library | Performing our contract with you |
| Publish or schedule a video on TikTok or Instagram, only when you choose to | Performing our contract, on your instruction |
| Send service messages, such as when your videos are ready, and answer support questions | Performing our contract |
| Keep Editwise secure, prevent misuse and fix problems | Our legitimate interest in a safe, working service |
| Improve the editor, using measurements of our edits such as how long they took and whether they passed our quality checks | Our legitimate interest in better edits |
| Keep invoices and records the law requires | Legal obligation |
| Email you when your spot on the waitlist opens | Your consent, which you can withdraw at any time |
| Send news about Editwise | Your consent, which you can withdraw at any time |
We don’t sell your personal data, we don’t use your footage to train AI models, and we don’t use your content for advertising.
4. How AI is used
Editwise uses AI models to plan and check each edit. To do that, the transcript of your footage, still frames from it, your brief and your brand kit are sent to our AI provider, which processes them on our behalf only to produce the plan and the checks. Audio may be sent to a voice clean-up service to remove room noise.
The AI suggests the edit; the result is checked before it reaches you, and you approve every video before it’s published anywhere. No decision with legal or similarly significant effects on you is made by automated means alone.
7. Data outside the EU
Some of our providers are based in, or process data in, the United States. When personal data leaves the European Economic Area, we make sure it stays protected: by relying on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified, or on the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
8. How long we keep it
- The waitlist: until you open an account or ask us to remove you, and at most 12 months.
- Your account: for as long as you have one.
- Footage, projects and finished videos: until you delete them or close your account. They’re then deleted within 30 days, and from our backups within a further 60 days.
- TikTok and Instagram access: until you disconnect, or the platform ends it. On disconnect it’s deleted at once.
- Server logs: up to 90 days.
- Invoices and payment records: 7 years, as Dutch tax law requires.
9. Your rights
Under the GDPR you may ask us to:
- give you a copy of your personal data;
- correct data that’s wrong;
- delete your data;
- limit how we use it, or object to a use based on our legitimate interest;
- send your data to you or another service in a common format.
Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Email support@editwise.co and we’ll answer within one month. You can also complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, or the authority where you live.
10. Security
Data travels to and from Editwise over encrypted connections, access to it is limited to the people and systems that need it, and access tokens are used only for the purpose above. No system is perfectly secure, so if we ever learn of a breach that affects you, we’ll tell you and the authority as the law requires.
11. Children
Editwise is for businesses and creators aged 18 and over. It isn’t meant for children and we don’t knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us personal data, email us and we’ll delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we update the date at the top. If a change matters to how we use your data, we’ll tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect.
13. Contact
Questions about this policy or your data: support@editwise.co, or by post to Cazari B.V., Klaaskampen 34, 1251 KP Laren (NH), the Netherlands.
6. TikTok and Instagram
You can connect a TikTok account and an Instagram professional account in Settings › Social accounts, so Editwise can publish the videos you approve, now or at a time you schedule. Connecting is optional; without it you download your videos and post them yourself.
What we receive
We also keep the access token each platform issues, the videos and captions you publish, and the publishing status and link of each post. We use this only to show your connected account and to publish what you approve.
What we never do
Disconnecting
Choose Disconnect in Settings › Social accounts at any time: the account and its access token are removed from Editwise at once, and nothing more is published. You can also remove Editwise’s access on the platform: in TikTok under Settings and privacy › Security and permissions › Apps and services, and in Instagram under Settings › Website permissions › Apps and websites. How to delete your data is on our data deletion page.
The platforms’ own terms also apply: the TikTok Privacy Policy and the Instagram Privacy Policy.
